– Homestays –One of the best ways to immerse yourself in the Spanish language and Mexican culture is to live with a homestay family during your time in Guanajuato. All of the families who open their homes to our students are friendly and enjoy helping their guests practice speaking Spanish. All homestays are located within walking distance of the school.
Hosts can provide 1 to 3 healthy meals a day *, if desired, and are able to accommodate most dietary preferences and needs. Prices for homestays vary (roughly between US$21 and $28 per day). Each family sets their own fees based on the amenities offered and also based on your choice of private/shared room, private/shared bathroom, and how many meals (if any) you would like each day. OTHER ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS If you are not interested in a homestay, there are a variety of other accommodation options in Guanajuato, such as hotels, dorms, apartments and house rentals. We can provide you with more information about these options at the time of registration. HOMESTAY AND OTHER ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENTS Your well-being is important to us. We are happy to support you through the process of choosing and coordinating the best lodging option for your visit to Guanajuato, including: discussing your needs and your options; acting as a liaison with host families, hotels or landlords; bringing you to your lodging upon your arrival; and being available to assist you should any issues arise during your stay. There is a US$15 fee for arranging hostel and hotel accommodations and a US$20 fee for coordinating apartment or house rentals. The weekly Homestays fees include a small charge for this service. * Please note: In Mexico, the two main meals of the day are Breakfast and a late afternoon Lunch (between 2 and 5pm). Dinner is usually a light snack late at night, rather than a hearty meal in the evening. Consider this when choosing how many meals a day you would like to have prepared by your homestay family. Breakfast and Lunch will be your two main opportunities to have sit-down, interactive meals with your families. If you wish to include Dinners in your meal plan, most homestay families will offer the options of: 1) saving you a plate of food from the lunchtime meal; or 2) giving you access to food in the kitchen to make a snack for yourself.
